Whether you’ve attended church your whole life or never stepped foot in one before, we know it’s not easy visiting a church for the first time because you’re not quite sure what to expect. If you are visiting for the first time, we want you to know that we will not embarrass you, have you stand up, or single you out in any way. We know that many people want to check out the church and be anonymous for a while – and that’s fine with us! Come in, enjoy the service, and see what GFA is about.

If you have any questions at all, please give us a call at (843) 546-2453, email us, or stop by sometime for a chat. We look forward to seeing you soon. In the meantime, here are answers to some questions that you may have about GFA.

At Georgetown First Assembly, we believe that the church isn’t about the building — it’s about people. The family of God is filled with people like you and, excitingly, people that aren’t. We think that you’ll find the people at GFA a friendly family of diverse believers in Jesus Christ. We love people and want to get to know everyone who walks through our doors. Our goal is to be the best that we can be at what God has called us to be.

Our worship services are aimed at glorifying God and helping you grow. In our services, we sing songs in worship, pray, give, hear biblical teaching, and receive insight from God. Whether you want to take your time and observe or connect to our church family the first day you’re here, you’ll be greeted by a warm and welcoming environment.

GFA is made up of a bunch of imperfect people seeking to build an authentic relationship with a loving God. We only have one rule at GFA…there are no perfect people allowed! If you’re not perfect, then you’ll fit in quite well! If you’re tired of worn out clichés and religious jargon, then this is the place for you. No matter who you are, we have a place for you. We’re always excited to make new friends and meet new people. Come experience the amazing things God has for you this weekend at one of our services.

We’ve tried to compile a list of answers to the questions we get asked most frequently. If you have a question that isn’t on this list, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We would love to hear from you and answer your questions.

GFA has always been a place where we keep it simple. Our atmosphere is relaxed, but focused. We believe that we don’t need to be flashy or put on big productions for people to meet God. We believe that Jesus is enough. Here’s what you can expect during a typical worship gathering:

During the worship service, our worship team will lead us in a number of songs. As we sing, our focus is not on ourselves or the people around us, but telling Jesus how much we love Him. So, no matter what kind of voice you have, sing out with all of your heart.  Feel free to sit, kneel, stand, clap, or lift your hands during the worship time, knowing that worship is about connecting with God, and not external appearances.

One of the greatest privileges we have as followers of Jesus is being able pray with boldness and confidence. During the worship time, anyone who needs special prayer will have the opportunity to have a pastor or deacon pray with them. We serve a supernatural God and we have seen God do miraculous things in these moments during our services.  We earnestly believe in the power of prayer and any of our pastors or deacons would be honored to pray with you before, during, or after the service.

At GFA, we believe that the Bible is God’s gift to us to show us who He is, what He’s done for us, and how we can honor Him in our everyday life. Every week, Pastor Dave preaches straight from the Bible in a way that is helpful and challenging. You won’t hear the opinions of men, but simply the Word of God. If you don’t have a copy of the Bible with you, we will make sure you get one.

Well…we recommend wearing clothes. Seriously, though, GFA is a “come as you are” church. We want you to feel comfortable. We are more concerned with meeting your real life needs than with what you wear. We’re just thrilled that you’re joining us and we want you to be more focused on who you’re worshiping than what you’re wearing. Most people dress casual though a few still prefer to put on their “Sunday best,” and that’s fine too! We think you’ll fit in no matter how you dress.
Parking lots are located on both sides of Duke Street in front of the church and behind the church on Saint James Street. There is also an abundance of curbside parking near the church.
GFA is a family-friendly environment. We believe that children are a blessing from God and are a vital part of every local church. We know that as a parent it is important that your children are in a safe and fun learning environment. We work hard to make sure that both of these goals are reached. GFA’s children’s ministries provide a fun, interactive, and stimulating environment intended to fill children with the wonder of knowing God, loving Him, and serving others. Every child, birth through 6th grade, is considered unique and special. Each child receives individual, focused attention. In a warm, secure, and loving environment, infants through 6th graders receive biblical instruction consistent with their age. Our teachers go “all out” to make their weekend time a vibrant, creative, Christ-centered experience. Truth is communicated “hands-on,” stimulating kids to experience the realities of the Bible and the Christian life for themselves.

Every Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m., the students experience a sense of community along with relevant biblical teaching through small groups, interactive games; and more. We encourage students to join the larger church body in the main sanctuary in the 10:30 a.m. service as their primary worship experience. On Wednesday nights, we offer an engaging worship gathering designed for middle school and high school students led by leaders who are passionate about helping students become everything God created them to be.

If you are a guest, please do not feel any obligation to give. We are focused on what we can do to serve you, not on what you can give to us.
We would love to invite you to other events we have going on. Come check out what we have going on outside just our Sunday mornings.

The Connection Card is a great way for us to get to know you. We would be grateful to know you’ve visited us. Another benefit of filling out a Connection Card is that there is a space on the back for you to write down a prayer request. We have a prayer team that will pray over your request throughout the week. You can fill out the Connection Card anytime during the service and place it in the offering bag or drop it off at the Welcome Center in the foyer.

Another simple way to connect with us is to text the word “welcome” (without the quotation marks) to 843-800-0960. Then, just follow the directions and we’ll be able to connect with you!

Either way you go, we’ve got a special gift we’d like to give you just for taking the time to connect with us. You can take your connection card to the welcome center to pick up your gift, or if you connected with us by text, you can just head to the welcome center. They’ll be ready for you!
